It seems like lately there have been more and more reports of stolen scooters. I found an article about a scooter theft, of a Wazoo scooter (not sure of the brand), thats only about 2 hours from us. www.pal-item.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080609/UPDATES/80609013I was just curious and also wondering what does everyone does to protect their scooter from being stolen. Personally, I just use the lock on the center-stand and the steering wheel lock. I feel like this is a pretty safe area, but with all these news stories, I may start using something more.

well most of the time i leave the key in my scoot but then again that is when its locked in my garage or locked in the bay at the shop
when i have to leave it outside i like to park by the bike rack and lock it to the rack(in wi scooters are allowed to park like a bike) i use a kevlar reinforced cable lock if no bike rack is available i find something to cable up to sign post cart storage area i know it wont stop some one who realy wants to steal my scoot but it will at least slow them down so hopefully i can catch them in the act and put a world of hurt on them

Wow, that really sucks. it sounds like the guy stole the scooter from the owner's residence. Unfortunately, if that happens down here, it will never make the news because so much other stuff is going on. I am extremely paranoid about having my scoot stolen. When I park it outside, I either find a bike rack or a sign post and use my Kryptonite chain lock. I also have a u-shaped lock for bicycles that I sometime put on the front tire. It works like a boot. I also make sure that I use the latch inside the trunk under the seat as well as the emergency brake. To top it off, I also use the ignition kill switch. I know that if someone wants to steal it they will, but I hope to make it as inconvenient for them as possible so they will hopefully leave mine alone. At home I park in a car port and I do all of the things mentioned above as well as cover it. I don't want lurking eyes to see it from the alley since I already had a bicycle stolen from the carport when I first bought the house.

i think that's a really good idea to lock it to a sign if there's no bicycle rack available

My fear is that someone will carry the Met away. That is why I like to attach it to a pole or something.

i really like the locking center stand and i know that if someone really wants to steal it then they will but hopefully that will make it harder.

for security I like to take the pin out of a grenade and ever so gently wedge it under the back tire. If someone messes with my scoot then they are in for a bit of a surprise!

yes but every now and then the sacrifice must be made for the greater good
the greater good being blowing the shit out of a scum bag that wants to steal a scooter

I think mine has the center stand lock but I can't figure out how to drop it down >.> It confuses me. I saw its last owner show me how to do it but I've forgotten since.
How much are the cable/chain locks usually?

How much are the cable/chain locks usually? I would strongly recommend getting some sort of chain lock for your scoot, especially here in Miami. The real good ones are not cheap, but you can also get some good ones for less money like jmk did. No lock will prevent a scooter theft, but the idea is to get the potential thief to move on because of the hassle of stealing your scoot. I use all sorts of steering locks and and latches that are part of the scoot, but the bottom line, those will only prevent a thief from riding it away. The scoots are not that heavy and two people can easily pick one up and put it in the back of a truck or van and take off, that is why I think a lock is so important, it certainly discourages a quick theft, they will have to work at it and there is more chance that they will be caught in the act. There are several places in town where you can get a good lock. I bought mine at Honda world located on West Dixie Highway and about 155 street. Today I saw a scooter place called Scoots, Bikes and Skates, located at 1800 Biscayne Blvd that has them too.
